What We Believe
At Byron Bay Presbyterian Church, we are a community of people who love Jesus and want to live wholeheartedly for Him. As part of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, we are rooted in the historic Christian faith and shaped by the teachings of the Bible — God’s true and living Word.
Here’s what we believe:
1. The Bible is God’s Word
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. It is our final authority for what we believe and how we live.
2. There is One True God
We believe in one God who exists in three persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — equal in power and glory, working together in all things.
3. Jesus Christ is Lord
Jesus is the eternal Son of God who became fully human. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross to take the punishment for our sins, and rose again to bring us eternal life. He is our Saviour and King.
4. We Are Saved by Grace Alone
We are saved not by our own efforts, but by God’s grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is a free gift that we receive by trusting in Jesus. This is the gospel or the good news of Jesus.
5. The Holy Spirit Transforms Us
The Holy Spirit lives in every believer, giving new life, helping us to grow in holiness, and equipping us to serve God and others.
6. The Church is Christ’s Body
The Church is the community of all believers. We gather to worship God, hear His Word, encourage and serve one another, and make Jesus known to our community and to the ends of the earth.
7. Jesus Will Return
We believe that Jesus will return one day to judge the living and the dead. On that day, He will make all things new, and those who trust in Him will live forever with God in joy and peace in the new creation.
Our Foundations
Our beliefs are shaped by the Bible and clearly expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith, which we hold to as our doctrinal standard under the authority of Scripture.
